Japan paused for a second in his step and turned around.\n\nThe nation raised a finger and the silver butterfly landed on it. He gave a tiny smile as it flew off once more. Upon turning around and raising his candle to continue on his way, Japan stopped. His eyes widened.\n\nHowever, before he could fully process what he saw, Japan found himself being pushed back onto the ground. China shook his head, crossing his arms and glancing down at his feet.\n\n"It's not that...," he stated quietly. When the eldest didn't speak again, Japan frowned but nodded. \n\n"In that case," the nation began again, "China-san and I will get the flashlights from the kitchen. England-san, how many are there?" England tapped his chin.\n\n"Five I think," he replied. "They should be in the cupboard closest to the back door." At this revelation, Germany raised an eyebrow, patting Italy's head as the nation shivered.\n\n"Back door?" England nodded, turning to the German.\n\n"Yes. It leads into the back garden. I usually keep it locked." China and Japan both nodded, mentally storing the information away.\n\n"We'll be right back then." The two Asians grabbed a candle each and made their way to the kitchen door. In truth, it was actually a long hallway that connected the two rooms together in order for guests to get their food easier.\n\n"Be careful, da?" China looked back to Russia, smiling.\n\n"We'll be fine aru. No need to worry."\n\nThe two then opened the door and [[stepped into the dark hallway]]. \n\n-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-\n\nCompleted Chapter 1
America glanced up into the rafters with a confused frown on his face. \n\n"What's that?" he asked. Canada looked over to him.\n\n"What?" \n\nAmerica then raised a hand and pointed to the silver butterfly. He frowned, staring at it thoughtfully before grinning.\n\n"Dudes!" The other nations paused to look at the two brothers incredulously. America pointed into the rafters.\n\n"Check that out! Isn't that cool? I didn't know you had butterflies in here England!" It was quiet.\n\n"I don't see anything," France then said, peering at the area curiously. America's head whipped around. His face turned to one of confusion. The butterfly was gone.\n\n"I could have sworn it was there..." With a shake of his head, France placed a hand on the nation's shoulder and led him away, telling him it was just his imagination. Meanwhile, Canada stood still for a bit longer. As he turned to follow, the butterfly then appeared and landed on his shoulder before disappearing once more.\n\nThe normally ignored nation paused in his step upon feeling a strange strength come over him. \n\n"That's weird..." With a shake of his head, Canada began to continue on his way when he suddenly walked into something. He hadn't notice before, but it had gotten a bit darker. \n\nThe others weren't anywhere close by and they didn't seem to even notice how the invisible nation was seemingly swallowed up by the darkness. "Hey, what's this?" China stood from his seat, gaining the attention of the other nations within the room. He went over to the butterfly and leaned closer to get a better look. England frowned.\n\n"I know that that was never there before..." China slowly reached out a hand.\n\n"China-san, are you sure that's a good idea?" Japan asked. China looked over his shoulder at his younger brother.\n\n"It's a butterfly aru," he said, "What harm could it do?" Turning back to it, the nation reached closer and held it his hand there. Slowly, the butterfly flew off the wall and landed on his finger.\n\nA feeling of strength came over him as China watched in slight surprise as the butterfly vanished. He stood up straight, confused look on his face before walking back to his chair.\n\n"That was weird..."\n\nLightning crashed outside, making everyone jump as the lights flickered out. America asked, "I can't see a thing!"\n\n"Hold on a second." Once more, the nations fell silent before a flame began to glow in England's hands. China bit his lip. The footsteps continued to get louder as he thought. Then, he blew out his candle before climbing into the cupboard. Japan did the same before following, closing the door behind him. \n\nBecause of their small stature, the two nations could easily fit in the cupboard together. It was a good thing too, since just as they slipped inside, the door to the kitchen opened and the footsteps entered the room. They kept their breathing soft, hearts thumping erratically. After they had not heard any more footsteps, Japan chanced a glance outside of their cupboard, opening the door just a crack. \n\nHe could just barely make out the shape of a large head just above the counter, with a tiny neck. The sound of whirring made the castle shudder and groan. China glanced worriedly out the window into the swirling winds. Thunder boomed and lightning flashed. A [[silver butterfly|Silver Butterfly 2]] was stuck to the wall. China noticed it, but didn't say anything. \n\n"It looks really bad out there aru," he said. \n\nThe nations were all together, sitting at England's long table in his dining hall, picking at the thing on their plates that was supposed to be fish and chips. Their host was at the head of the table, happily eating. He didn't seem to notice that he was the only one. \n\n"It does, doesn't it?" France crossed his legs underneath the table. "I don't think it'll be safe to go outside anytime soon."\n\n"Bah! That rain won't be able to stop the AWESOME me!" Prussia raised his fork in the air, standing from his chair, a triumphant grin on his face.\n\n"That wouldn't be the best idea, Prussia-san," Japan chided as he pulled on the albino's arm to get him to sit down. The personification of a certain European nation pursed his lips upon noticing that there were only nine guests in his entrance hall. \n\nAmerica, who was busy stuffing hamburgers in his mouth (where did he get those?), was speaking to someone with a bear who looked quite similar to him (who was he?). It would be more accurate to say that the person was simply nodding and agreeing while America was talking, listening with a smile. \n\nEngland then turned to look across the room to Japan, the Eastern nation with Germany, Italy, and Prussia; the group was catching up. China and Russia were sitting on one of the couches together while France spoke adamantly with them about his French cuisine (England fought to not curl his lip). \n\nThe Brit could feel a vein popping on the side of his head. He got confirming calls from every other nation in the world, and yet they didn't show up! What kind of civilized person did that?\n\nWith a heavy sigh, he pushed the thought from his mind and decided to announce his presence.\n\n"Glad you all could come," he began. Everyone turned their attenton to him upon hearing him speak.\n\n"If you would all please follow me, we're going to be moving this party to the dining hall. This way." Japan took a deep breath before cautiously making his way over to the door. He gulped nervously as he stopped right in front of it. The running grew louder and louder until Japan finally opened the door.\n\nOnly for another person to slam right into him. \n\nThe force sent both nations to the floor in a right state. Japan's candle flew out of his hands, the flame extinguishing once it hit the ground. The lightning flashed and Japan slowly sat up, looking over to his panicking brother.\n\n"China-san, what is the matter?" China's head snapped over to him. The elder of the two then grabbed his wrist and pulled him to his feet. Japan noticed that his brother's hands were cold and sweaty.\n\n"Japan, we have to go," China said hurriedly, pulling him behind him towards the back door. "We have to get out, we have to hurry, can't waste time, can't let that thi-!"\n\nJapan heard the sound of a high pitch giggle, something that immediately made China stiffen. The nation's breath became more desperate. Japan took a chance to look over his shoulder to whatever it was that made the noise.\n\nIt was a clown, its electric blue hair gravity-defying and its face white. Red painted its lips as well as the area around its eyes. It had bony hands, the nails of which was painted with red. But the most horrible thing about it was its grin. Its grin reached the tips of its ears and its teeth were sharp and pointy.\n\nJapan's own breathing quickened as he stopped fighting his brother's attempts at escape. Together, the two rushed towards the open back door. \n\nLightning flashed.\n\nThe clown appeared right in front of them, grin on its face the first thing the two almost barrelled into. China let out a terrified squeek. The clown giggled once more, a bony hand snapping out and grabbing Japan, throwing him out the door. \n\nThe monster then grabbed onto China, hands clamping around his throat before opening his mouth wide. Japan watched in horror as his brother was swallowed whole. He attempted to get to his feet, yet he found that his legs couldn't move. Suddenly, the sound of growling drew his attention away from the scene before him. \n\nJapan turned his head to see the sight of a strange dog. But it wasn't just a dog, for it seemed to have a human male's arms, legs, and body. It also had rather long claws. Blood seemed to be dripping from its grinning mouth and pointy teeth, making Japan shuffle back in fright.\n\nFirst his brother. Slowly, Japan closed his mouth, placing a hand over it as a safety precaution. However, it wasn't long before the strange, tall figure made its way to the back door, closing it. Only when he was sure that the clown was gone for good did Japan give a sigh of relief, opening the cupboard door. China climbed out right behind him, shivering.\n\n"What was that aru?" Japan shook his head.\n\n"It was tall," he said, "With blue hair. And its head was really big." China shuddered once more upon hearing the description.\n\n"I don't like the sound of that," he said, "It just.... gives me the creeps aru." Japan nodded in agreement.\n\n"Let's return to the others," he then said, raising the flashlights, "since we have what we need now." China gave a nod and then looked back at the counter. The knives were gone. Both grimly noticed this.\n\n"We need to warn them all."\n\n"That is, unless they don't know already aru," China added. Japan gave another nod. \n\n"Let's grab anything that might be useful," the Asian nation suggested. China quickly went to rummaging in some of the top shelves while his brother looked inside the lower ones. \n\nThe eldest pulled out a steel pot, making Japan grimace in remembrance of World War 2. However, China was still peering inside the cabinet. He looked confused.\n\n"China-san? What is it?" Japan asked. China reached once more into the cabinet and pulled out another item. Japan's eyes widened. It was one of his extra katanas. What was that doing here? The siblings shared a glance. \n\nThey could figure it out later. \n\nSwiftly, the two hurried back down the hallway they had come from. It was the annual New Year's party. The nations of the world would all receive invitations to this supposedly large scale event and each year, it was held by a different person. Or nation. Or country. Whatever, it doesn't really matter.\n\nIn anycase, this year found America the first to arrive at England's house. \n\nThe western nation lived in a giant castle in a remote part of his country. The doors were a total of fifteen metres tall and the walls were made of heavy blocks of stone. \n\nAmerica could remember the tall fortress from when he had been a kid as well as a bit after. He was silently dreading the food that would be served, which is why he had brought an entire crate of hamburgers and soda cans. He had no doubt that the others would bring their own food too. The nation glanced up to the sky with a frown. \n\nA storm seemed to be approaching, and fast. \n\n[[Go inside]]\n[[Stay outside]]
America put the crate down onto the dirt beside him with a grin on his face. He wasn't afraid of a bit of rain. \n\nThere was the sound of a car honking and the nation turned around. Japan's car pulled into England's long driveway and stopped right next to America. The window rolled down and America's smile widened.\n\n"Hey Japan!" He exclaimed. The Asian nation gave a small smile in response.\n\n"Hello America-kun," Japan replied. "How are you?"\n\n"Great!" America pumped a fist into the air. "I can't wait to get this party started!" With a slight laugh, Japan parked his car and then got out. \n\n[[Go inside]]

China pursed his lips before taking long strides towards the back door. Japan was right behind him, picking up the six knives that were on the counter as he passed. The nation handed his brother three of them and then the two took a hesitant step before running out [[into the pouring rain]].
Japan held up his candle as he made his way down the long, dark hallway. The nation noticed that it was slightly chilly and couldn't contain his shudder as a breeze blew right past him. The grip on his candle tightened as he continued down the hall, anxious.\n\nJapan wasn't entirely sure why, but he felt uneasy. This feeling affected his actions; he would look over his shoulder into the gathering darkness behind him, just to make sure that nothing would suddenly pop up. \n\nA [[silver butterfly|Silver Butterfly 4]] followed behind him, its wings twinkling as the light of his candle his it. Once more, Japan shuddered and picked up the pace upon noticing it. It gave him a rather nervous feeling.\n\nHowever, he truly didn't know what he was so worried about. A siver crept up his spine and refused to leave.\n\nSoon enough, he came to a halt just outside of a wooden door. He took a deep breath before reaching forwards and turning the knob.\n\nThe nation came into a dark room and and after raising his candle, realized that it was indeed the kitchen that he had been searching for. Pans shone as light passed over him, the Asian nation cautiously stepping into the room. Japan shivered as a cold breeze swept past him. He glanced over to where it had come from. His eyes widened.\n\nLightning flashed.\n\nThe back door was open, swinging without a care in the world. Rain thundered down from the clouds outside and through the opening, soaking the doormat.\n\n"D-Didn't England say that he locked that door?" Japan asked himself, breathing becoming heavy. Once again, the lightning crash, making him jump.\n\n"I-I better get the flashlights and return quickly..." He shook his head. The image of a hooded figure and bloody hands came into his mind before vanishing.\n\n"I believe it was the closet closest to the back door, right?" The nation made his way to the closet. Japan took a deep breath before opening it.\n\nIt was a cupboard in every sense of the word; small and had several shelves near the top. Japan idly noticed that it could fit a person or two if they were small enough. It wouldn't be very comfortable though. He quickly grabbed the flashlights from the top shelf. As he was about to make his way back to the dining room, Japan paused.\n\nThe back door continued to swing, creaking. His breathing grew quiet. That's when Japan heard it. \n\nFootsteps. It sounded like whoever it was, was running. The sound came from the door that led to the hallway from the dining room. He almost stopped breathing. \n\n'What should I do?' He thought, glancing around anxiously. \n\nHe glanced at [[the door]] where the footsteps grew louder from. It could easily be another one of the nations coming to check up on him. \n\nHe then peered around the kitchen and spotted [[a set of knives]] on the counter. You could never be too careful, after all. \n\nHe looked back to [[the cupboard]] that he had just raided. Japan was small enough, so he had this feeling that he could fit. \n\nFinally, he spared a glance to [[the open door into the back garden]]. He could just make a run for it now and avoid whoever it was coming towards the kitchen door. \n\nJapan frowned.
"What the-?"\n\nSuddenly, the thing was gone. Japan jerked back in slight surprise.\n\n"Japan, what is it aru?" China leaned forward. The younger nation shuffled back out of the way so that China could look. As the eldest peered through the crack, the lightning flashed. China let out a scream.\n\nThe cupboard door flung open. "C-China-san," Japan gasped, nearly tripping over his feet as his brother pulled him along. Mud was getting all over his shoes and the uneven ground made it hard to run without slipping, yet China managed. Japan wasn't too sure how, but in this moment, China's age was of no importance to how fast they were going. \n\n"We can't stop yet," his brother replied, pulling him around a large bush. "Can't stop, or that Thing will catch up!"\n\n"What thing, China-san?" The nation simply shook his head and kept pulling.\n\n"Need to get farther away," the eldest huffed. \n\nHis younger brother couldn't help but notice how China's usual suffx of 'aru' wasn't at the end of any of his sentences. If his brother refused to use the phrase, then the situation must be serious. So, Japan remained quiet and let his brother drag him away from the castle walls (the DRY castle walls, he added to himself). \n\nThey had passed by hedges and trees and flower bushes before they finally came to a stop, beinding over and panting heavily. \n\n"That was a close one aru," China said, hands on his knees to support him. Japan gave a nod in agreement, not trusting himself to say anything without catching his breath first. \n\nIt was when Japan got his breath back that he turned to China.\n\n"What was that all about?" he asked. China took shakily inhaled.\n\n"When you left," the Asian nation began, "We waited. But it was a while and you hadn't come back yet. Then, when I thought we should just go get you, something came into the dining room..."\n\n"Something?" Japan pressed. China shuddered.\n\n"It was this... Clown," the nation explained. "It had this huge head and the most creepiest grin on its face."\n\n"What is a clown doing here?" The eldest shook his head.\n\n"Not sure... But when its grin widened, Germany leapt from his seat. Italy wasn't too far behind him and soon enough, I was the only one left in the room. So, I went out the door you left through."\n\nJapan gave a slow nod.\n\n"What should we do then?" China frowned.\n\n"I-I'm not sure aru..."\n\nThe two fell silent. Japan turned his gaze back towards England's castle. The stone walls seemed to have taken on a rather sinister outlook to them. \n\n"I believe it would be best if we return and try to find the others," he then said. China flinched.\n\n"A-Are you sure that's a good idea aru?" Japan gave his brother a sharp nod. Their footsteps continued down the hall. Japan raised an eyebrow at this comment, but remained quiet as China kept talking.\n\n"I'm not entirely sure why though, but... I felt like I needed to go with you aru."\n\nJapan sighed.\n\n"I would have been fine, China-san. You don't have to worry." The Chinese man shook his head. \n\n"That's the strange thing aru! I know I shouldn't worry." He looked down at his feet worriedly. "But for some reason, I can't help it. And it's not only because it's you aru. The others..."\n\n"You felt like something bad would happen to them?" At this, China gave a sharp nod. The two then came to a halt, just outside of a wooden door. They glanced at each other before Japan reached forwards and turned the knob.\n\nThey came into a dark room and after raising their candles, realized that it was indeed the kitchen that they had been searching for. Pans shone as light passed over them, the two nations cautiously stepping into the room. China shuddered as a cold breeze swept past them. Upon noticing this, Japan glanced over to where the breeze had come from. His eyes widened.\n\n"China-san..." Lightning flashed as the eldest turned to look.\n\nThe back door was open, swinging without a care in the world. Rain thundered down from the clouds outside and through the opening, soaking the doormat.\n\n"D-Didn't England say that he locked that door aru?" Japan nodded slowly, breathing becoming heavy. The lightning crashed outside, making both of them jump.\n\n"L-Let's get the flashlights and return quickly," the Japanese man then said, shaking his head. The image of a hooded figure and bloody hands came into his mind before vanishing.\n\n"England said the closet closest to the back door, right aru?" The two made their way to the closet. They shared a glance before China opened it. \n\nIt was a cupboard in every sense of the word; small and had several shelves near the top. Japan idly noticed that it could fit a person or two if they were small enough. It wouldn't be very comfortable though. They quickly grabbed the flashlights from the top shelf. As the two were about to make their way back to the dining room, Japan placed a hand on his older brother's shoulder. China looked over at him.\n\n"Japan," he asked, "What is it aru?" The younger nation raised a finger to his lips.\n\n"Do you hear that?" His brother's voice had grown soft, barely a whisper that China had to strain to hear. The eldest nation then willed his senses to expand, searching for the noise that Japan had heard.\n\nThe back door continued to swing, creaking. The two were breathing quietly. That's when China heard it.\n\nFootsteps. From the door that led to the hallway from the dining room. The nation almost stopped breathing. The two shared another glance.\n\n"What should we do?" China asked, whispering urgently. Japan frowned, glancing at the door that the figure was approaching. He peered around the kitchen and spotted a set of knives on the counter. He looked back to the cupboard that they had just raided. Finally, he spared a glance to the open door into the back garden. Japan turned back to his brother, leaving the decision up to him.\n\nChina frowned, eyebrows furrowing in thought.\n\n[[Hide in the cupboard]]\n[[Grab the knives]]\n[[Escape out into the back garden]]
With an extremely worried look on his face, China slowly sat back down into his seat with a sigh. Japan gave him a nod and a reassuring smile before turning back to England.\n\n"England-san, how many flashlights are there?" England tapped his chin.\n\n"Five I think," he replied. "They should be in the cupboard closest to the back door." At this revelation, Germany raised an eyebrow, patting Italy's head as the nation shivered.\n\n"Back door?" England nodded, turning to the German.\n\n"Yes. It leads into the back garden. I usually keep it locked." Japan gave a thoughtful nod, mentally storing the information away.\n\n"I'll be right back then." The Asian grabbed one of the candles from the table and made his way to the kitchen door. In truth, it was actually a long hallway that connected the two rooms together in order for guests to get their food easier.\n\n"Be careful, eh?" Japan looked back to Canada(who?), the nation's expression worried. Although the two didn't interact much, Japan did in fact know who the man was; the two had a high-school exchange student program running after all. The Japanese man gave a nod.\n\n"I'll be back as soon as I can."\n\nHe then opened the door and [[stepped into the dark hallway|stepped into the dark hallway 1]]\n-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-\n\nCompleted Chapter 1
The two nearly tripped over their feet as they ran through the muddy terrain. The wet stuff got all over their shoes (and in China's case, in them, since he was wearing flats) and it was extremely difficult to run without slipping. \n\nChina was managing just fine, much to Japan's relief. Though, he wasn't really much better considering his own age. Shaking his head, he continued to follow China as they made their way away from England's castle and futher into the garden. \n\nThe lightning flashed above them, thunder booming. \n\nIt was this that finally caused China to stumble and fall to the ground. Japan came to a halt and bent down to help his brother from off the muddy ground. He gathered up the fallen knives and flashlights that the nation had dropped, handing them back to his brother before the duo took off once more. \n\n"What should we do now?" Japan frowned before turning his gaze back towards the castle. The stone walls seemed to have taken on a rather sinister outlook. \n\n"I believe it would be best if we return and try to find the others," he then said. China flinched.\n\n"A-Are you sure that's a good idea aru?" Japan gave his brother a sharp nod. China turned towards the castle, gulping.\n\n"We better hurry th-" China stopped midsentence. Japan glanced over curiously before turning to see what his brother was staring at. He took a step back, breathing growing heavier. \n\nIt couldn't be a dog. \n\nWhat kind of dog had a human body? But it certainly had the dog head down pat. Plus, the large, sharp claws were another dead giveaway that it wasn't human. It's teeth were almost as large as its claws and they were snapping and gritting together into a fierce grin as it stared at them with beady red eyes that glowed through the rain. \n\nIt continued to stare at them. Japan gulped uncertainly, hands gripping tighter to the knives in his hands. He wasn't sure what to do.\n\nThat dog thing wasn't moving, simply watching them. Japan didn't know when it would move, or if it even would at all. That could be bad if it moved.\n\nThe nation stopped at that thought. How did he know that it would be bad if it moved? Even though it looked scary, it was possible that it wasn't actually meant to scare them. Maybe it was kind and liked warm hugs.\n\n"Japan!"\n\nThe nation was snapped out of his thoughts as his brother called to him. Japan was tackled down onto the ground. Instinctly, as if his hands knew what needed to be done, the Asian nation grabbed onto the dog's neck before it could sink its teeth into him. The nation gritted his own teeth, pushing back, trying desperately to get the dog off of him. The knives that had been in his hands were lying uselessly further away.\n\nOr not.\n\nChina had just run over, grabbing the knives before rolling out of the way of a giant, clawed hand. The hand led to a freaky looking clown, one that Japan thought seemed almost too happy.\n\nHis thoughts were interrupted by the dog pushing down and teeth being sunk into his neck. A scream ripped through his lips as he tried even more to get the dog off but it was in vain.\n\nSlowly, his movements began to falter until he finally stopped. \n\n-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-\n\nB A D E N D
Japan quickly strode over to the set of knives on the counter. His hands closed around it just as the door to the hallway opened. He whipped around, and threw.\n\nThere was a gasp. Japan quickly rushed over to his brother, who had fallen to the floor, hands clenching around the handle of the knife in his chest.\n\n"C-China-san," Japan stuttered. He wasn't sure what to do, so he settled on simply holding his dying brother. China looked back up to him, hands coming up to cup his face.\n\n"I-It's alright a-aru...," he whispered, "B-But y-y-you should g-g-g-g-go..." Japan shook his head. China's grip tightened on his face.\n\n"T-There's s-s-s-something...." China's voice grew softer and softer. "Y-Y-You m-m-m-m-must....." Finally, the eldest nation gave a final sigh, his head falling back. Japan held his brother closer.\n\n"Y-Y-Yao-nii..." \n\nGiggling. Japan looked up.\n\nThe last thing he saw was teeth and a dark cavern for a throat.\n\n-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-\n\nB A D E N D
